Zebra & Giraffe Album Tour

Award-winning alternative rockers are set to cause a rumble in the Mother City

After releasing their much anticipated darker, more daring third album, ‘The Wisest Ones’, Zebra & Giraffe have taken to the road to tour South Africa and spread their sound. Next stop? Cape Town, at Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch on Wednesday, 26 September, Mercury Live on Friday, 28 September and the OC Bar and Theatre at Obz Cafe on Saturday, 29 September 2012.

While devoted fans will surely know that Zebra & Giraffe was started by songwriter Greg Carlin as a solo project, and only evolved into a full-fledged touring band after Carlin released the debut album ‘Collected Memories’ in 2008, they may not be so clued up on the fact that the band has changed dramatically since collecting a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Rock Album in 2009. Since then, the group has seen members come and go, and their sound has evolved accordingly. No longer embracing the radio-hit rock that previously defined them, Zebra & Giraffe is now experimenting with a darker, more melancholy mood, and the result is ‘The Wisest Ones’.

“We know some of the songs from this album won't be played on radio, and to a certain degree with ‘Collected Memories’ and ‘The Inside’, I always worried about a song's commercial appeal. With ‘The Wisest Ones’ we really just wrote songs that felt right - songs that almost needed to get out. Whether they had a catchy chorus or a chorus at all didn't really matter,” says front man and lyricist, Greg Carlin.
