We all know the dads who say they don't need anything for Father's Day. Luckily, these ideas aren't things you can wrap. This year's lineup includes a stargazing tour well-worth the road trip, an evening of racing simulators and slot cars, a dinner concert at Kirstenbosch, vineyard safaris in Hermanus, and even a small-town museum with a 5 000-year-old Egyptian artefact. Here are seven curious ways to celebrate Father's Day.
A Father's Day breakfast doesn't need to cost a fortune, and that’s exactly why mischu’s breakfast special is one of the best-value breakfast deals in Sea Point: An eggs benedict and a flat white for R119. The flat white is made with their award-winning Isabella blend, so dad can see what all the fuss is about and find plenty of other reasons to make mischu a regular spot.
Date: Saturday, 20 June; 6.45am to 5.30pm & Sunday, 21 June; 7.30am to 5.00pm
Cost: R119 for the breakfast special

Benguela Cove makes for a great Father's Day outing for every kind of dad. Families can hop on a vineyard safari, take a cellar tour, or challenge dad to a round of Pirate Adventure Golf overlooking the lagoon. Afterwards, settle in for brunch or lunch from the à la carte menu and Father's Day specials, with discounts on Benguela Cove's award-winning wines.
Date: Sunday, 21 June 2026; 9.30am to 11.30am (brunch) & 12pm to 5pm (lunch)
Cost: From R150pp, book via Benguela Cove’s website

The three-course lunch at The Cellar Door at Stellenbosch’s Jordan Wine Estate includes mains like glazed pork belly or pan-roasted linefish, served with duck-fat potatoes, vegetables and a Waldorf salad. Dads should save room for dessert: a dark chocolate, cinnamon and orange croissant pudding served with ice cream. Each booking includes a glass of Jordan Blanc de Blancs on arrival.
Date: Sunday, 21 June; seatings at 12pm, 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm
Cost: R495pp, book via Jordan Wine Estate’s website

These 90-minute tours give dad a front-row seat to celestial objects like the Milky Way, constellations, and planets through two dedicated telescopes. For adventurous dads keen to get out of town, it’s a roughly three-and-a-half hour drive from Cape Town, tracing the route from the South African Astronomical Observatory’s headquarters in Obs to its major telescopes in the Karoo.
Date: Saturday, 20 June; 6pm to 7.30pm
Cost: Free for kids under 6, R60 for kids 6 to 11 years & R120 for adults, book via Quicket

If your dad secretly thinks he could've made it in Formula 1, this one's for him. Rev & Race is an adults-only evening of slot car racing, racing simulators, foosball and friendly competition. There'll also be snacks and drinks available for the dads battling it out for bragging rights, making this a perfect pit stop for dads who like a little competition.
Date: Saturday, 20 June; 7pm to 10pm
Cost: From R280 to R550, book via Quicket

This Father’s Day concert at MOYO Kirstenbosch pairs a seated dinner and dessert with live music from pianist Colia-Leah Enderstein and saxophonist Josie McClure. Your ticket also includes free access to Kirstenbosch through MOYO’s night entrance, making it an easy way to turn Father's Day into an evening out.
Date: Sunday, 21 June; 6pm
Cost: From R225 to R385, book via MOYO's website

You probably wouldn't expect to find a 5 000-year-old Egyptian artefact in a small-town museum. But Wellington Museum is home to an unusual collection of antiquities, including ancient Egyptian jewellery, funeral figurines, scarab amulets and a terracotta vase dating back to 3100 BCE. It's one of many surprises you and dad may find in this affordable museum.
Date: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm
Cost: R20 for adults and R5 for kids
