The three-course lunch at The Cellar Door at Stellenbosch’s Jordan Wine Estate includes mains like glazed pork belly or pan-roasted linefish, served with duck-fat potatoes, vegetables and a Waldorf salad. GUIDED STARGAZING TOUR ROAD-TRIP

These 90-minute tours give dad a front-row seat to celestial objects like the Milky Way, constellations, and planets through two dedicated telescopes. For adventurous dads keen to get out of town, it’s a roughly three-and-a-half hour drive from Cape Town, tracing the route from the South African Astronomical Observatory’s headquarters in Obs to its major telescopes in the Karoo.

DAY TRIP: WELLINGTON MUSEUM

You probably wouldn't expect to find a 5 000-year-old Egyptian artefact in a small-town museum. But Wellington Museum is home to an unusual collection of antiquities, including ancient Egyptian jewellery, funeral figurines, scarab amulets and a terracotta vase dating back to 3100 BCE.
