It’s about more than oysters, with 80+ events over 10 days
This world famous fairy tale ballet makes its way to the Artscape in Cape Town from Thursday, 13 December until Sunday, 23 December 2012. Now over 100 years old, the Nutcracker, a romantic masterpiece that’s old hand at warming the hearts of theatre-goers with its breathtaking scores and stunning choreography, is the perfect way to mark Christmas in Cape Town with family and friends.
Alongside the charming story of Clara, Fritz, the Mouse King, the Sugar Plum Fairy and, of course, Herr Drosselmeyer, this season’s production features the sensational partnership of Daria Klimentova from Czechoslovakia and Vadim Muntagirov from Russia; the duo, who’s mesmerizing chemistry has set the ballet world ablaze, will feature in two of the eight performances. To add scandal to style, the pair has a double decade-wide age gap and a romance that the world saw unfold in a behind-the-scenes television series about the English National Ballet on the BBC.
The all important Tchaikovsky penned music will be performed by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO).
