The 4th Annual World AIDS Day Gala Concert in Cape Town

Cape Town's World AIDS Day concert on 1 December promises to be much more than music and lyrics

The 4th annual World AIDS Day gala concert, an inspiring event that is about much more than music and lyrics, will once again be presented at the Artscape theatre on 1 December.

Made possible by the
Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management at Stellenbosch University, this concert proves there is much hope and fighting spirit in a country, continent and globe where the pandemic at times looms like a dark shadow.

This year’s concert
commemorates the 26th year since UNAIDS established World AIDS Day, a day of international awareness surrounding HIV and AIDS.

Much progress has been made over the years in tackling the pandemic on various fronts, and although there are still many challenges to overcome, the purpose of this concert is to focus on, acknowledge and triumphantly celebrate all that has been achieved in this important battle.

As such a noble message deserves a world-class production, the World AIDS Day gala concert is directed and produced by Gallo recording artist Jimmie Earl Perry, an internationally acclaimed musician who is also Director of Educational Theatre and Creative Arts at the Africa Centre.

It is not only the message of this concert that is inspirational. The artists involved are truly passionate about reaching out to others and using their talents as a platform to improve the lives of their fellow human beings.

Being passive will get us nowhere, but making a decision to talk to one person, to support one institution, to sing one song on a stage; making a decision to hope is what will ultimately heal people and nations – and that is what the World AIDS Day gala concert is all about.
