Karen Zoid concert at the Fugard Theatre

Premier South African female vocalist returns to rock one of Cape Town’s oldest stages.

Four long months have passed since Karen Zoid and Vusi Mahlasela’s emotional November performance at the Fugard Theatre left many audience members in tears, and now the award-winning female rock icon is scheduled to once more bring down the house at this historic Cape Town venue.  

Zoid, whose early music resonated so strongly with the youth that her groupies were deemed the “Zoid Generation”, has already released five solo albums in her career, and is gearing up to launch yet another, “Zoid Africa”.

The singer-songwriter is arguably best known for an enviable integrity that has inspired her to both speak her mind and to write emotionally charged lyrics – attributes that have allowed her to carve out a solid niche in a notoriously fickle South African music scene.

Though there’s no word as to whether her newest release will thrust listeners into the same emotional vortex that has come to distinguish much of her music, those who attend her concert at the Fugard Theatre will no doubt be privileged to a sneak peak at what’s to come. 

Not to mention, as sold out shows in the past can support, Zoid live on stage is a force to be reckoned with.
