Happy Hour at the Cape Quarter Square

Weekday evenings are all about half-price cocktails and high spirits at this chic Green Point lifestyle village

There’s only one thing better than a great happy hour special at a fine restaurant: a whole host of happy hour specials at various different restaurants in the same area. And that’s precisely what the contemporary Cape Quarter Square shopping centre offers every weekday between 4pm and 7pm.

From Monday to Friday, the stylish complex’s eateries slash the prices of all their cocktails in two. More specifically, this killer half-price deal is offered by the Mediterranean Rocca, which spills out onto the central open-air courtyard; the eclectic and relaxed Zabad Food Lounge; the contemporary and charmingly European Voila! (only from 4pm to 6pm); and the romantic Italian hotspot Andiamo, which is actually located on the other side of the road in the old Cape Quarter Piazza.

So, visitors can while away the hours after work at just one of the delightful restaurants or opt to hop around and have a little taste of each spot’s colourful concoctions. In addition to the regular drinks discount, some of these eateries also run food specials from time to time, but this is not as consistent.

Essentially, the deal is a chance to relax with a refreshing piña colada, mojito, margarita or long island iced tea in hand in a setting that’s both upmarket and inviting and nothing like that of your average mall. With cobblestone floors, a sunny alfresco piazza, plenty of light, ample parking and a chic aesthetic, the Green Point complex is the sort of space you can happily lose yourself in for hours on end, and unlike many other malls, its serene ambience calls for winding down rather than tensing up.

And of course, as the special runs for a full three hours, there’s more than enough time to squeeze in some quick browsing between boozy beverages. The Cape Quarter Square is dotted with a prime selection of gorgeous fashion boutiques, cutting-edge furniture stores, contemporary galleries and more, and it’s even home to one of the country’s most popular SPARs, so it’s possible to quickly get your groceries here too.

Though, given the vibey yet relaxing atmosphere created by all of the lifestyle village’s cafés, you might just want to sit and sip. Either way, happy hour at the Square is a cocktail lover’s dream and makes an after-work visit to this De Waterkant gem a must.

As mentioned, during happy hour (4pm – 7pm) at the Square, all cocktails are sold at 50% less the normal price. Booking is not essential, but it’s recommended that large parties call ahead to make a reservation at the preferred restaurant.
