GreenROCK charity concert at Trinity

Join the treevolution by rocking out at Trinity

Greenpop, the social enterprise that runs urban greening and reforestation projects in sub-Saharan Africa, is hosting the GreenROCK charity event at Cape Town’s super club, Trinity, on Friday, 29 June 2012. All proceeds from the rocking concert go toward the organisation’s “Trees for Zambia” project, an initiative to repopulate forests near Victoria Falls.

So branch out from your usual weekend routine, and head to the Green Point venue to watch Mr. Cat & The Jackal, Grassy Spark and Fox Comet sing their hearts out for a good cause.

Since early 2011, Green Pop has been planting trees at schools, in communities and deforested areas in an effort to raise environmental awareness. Not only does tree planting off-set carbon, but it has a deeply social benefit too, bringing different cultures, races, creeds and ages together for a common goal.

Since 2006, Mr Cat & The Jackal, a unique five piece multi-instrumental group, has been delivering experimental acoustic folk music to wayward audiences in the Mother City. Their live performance is said to be a complete theatrical experience, but there’s only one way to find out - judge for yourself.

Seasoned musicians Josh Riley and Yanick Bathfield started Grassy Spark earlier this year, and show no signs of slowing down. This Cape Town band takes inspiration from the unique cultural diversity of the Mother City, and is transforming that aura into the reggae-rock, funk, ska, Latin sound that they are becoming so known for.

Fox Comet have been rocking away since 2009, with Rob Coutts on harmonica, alto sax and vocals, Stephane Corneloup, on guitar, Nick Catto, on bass and backing vocals and Kyle Gray on the drums. Drawing inspiration from The Cat Empire, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Desmond and the Tutus and many more, this local band produces fresh, rocking grooves and are well on their way to becoming one of South Africa’s most dynamic bands.

Tickets are available at the door at R50p/p and R80p/p for VIP.

So even if you’re not amped to get your hands in the soil, you can still reconnect with nature and become part of the treevolution by rocking out at Trinity for a good cause.
