It’s always a sad time when bands take a break, but in the end it just makes their reunions even sweeter! Goodnight Wembley, the beloved Cape Town-based band, are picking up their guitars once again on Friday, 13 January 2017 at Mercury Live. Having seen their supporting acts as well, it’s safe to say that any fan of local rock music would be a fool to miss this.
Goodnight Wembley started as a collaboration idea and soon blossomed into one of the Mother City’s best rock bands. With modern music heading down a very distinctive road, rock and roll exists as an authentic alternative to the consumerism that has engulfed music in the late 2000s and onwards. Goodnight Wembley is made up of five incredibly talented musicians, all of which are dedicated to the rock genre. Namely, these band members are George van der Spuy, Miggs Auer, Alex Krause, Nic Gaud and Jean Labuschagne. We cannot wait to see this fabulous band back together at Mercury Live! Have a little listen to their stuff:
The first of their two supporting acts for the evening is Stoker. Also from Cape Town and also big fans of rock music, Stoker draws inspiration from Wolfmother and the Foo Fighters (amongst many others). Their use of distorted guitar gives them a very recognisable sound, and they are the perfect opener for Goodnight Wembley! The members of Stoker are Chris de Wet Bornman, Jurgen Bornman, Morgan O’Kennedy and Redge O’Kennedy. Catch a glimpse of them in action:
Lastly, but certainly not least, is The Dirty South. These guys also love rock and are lekker and local too (you may see a theme developing here). They describe themselves as “a five-piece balls to the wall Rock ‘n’ Roll machine from the Mother City”. Members include Etienne Fourie, Eamon Gleeson, Wege Bekker, Tertius Scheepers and Tim Moolman. Check out their Facebook page for more info and a few videos – The Dirty South Band ZA.
