An Afrikaans drama takes to the Artscape Theatre stage, and it will have you hooked from the beginning. Fiela se Kind runs for four nights, starting on Wednesday, 20 and ending on Saturday, 23 April 2016. As a popular set work for Afrikaans in school, seeing this play may help you better understand the book.
The performance follows the story of two families living on opposite sides of a mountain. On one side lives Fiela Komoetie with a three-year-old child, Benjamin, whom she found and adopted. On the other side of the mountain lives Elias van Rooyen and his wife Barta. The van Rooyen’s three-year-old son, Lukas, went missing after wondering out into the forest.
Could Benjamin and Lukas be the same child? The answer is revealed nine years later when two census workers go about their business around the mountain and discover the child living with his adoptive mother. This leads the boy to question who he really is, and if his mother is the woman she claims to be.
The drama is directed by Juanita Swanepoel, written by Dalene Matthee and stars Lee-Ann van Rooy, Charlton George, Waldemar Schultz, Nicole Holm, Luke White, Carla Smith, Wian Taljaard, Cantona James, Tomley van Vuuren, Patricia Baadjies and Chanté Plaatjies
