From here, it’s then on to a decadent two- or three-course dinner for two.

And owing to chef Ian Bergh’s creative prowess and extensive expertise (he’s worked the kitchens at renowned establishments like La Colombe and Five Flies), those on the hunt for a romantic restaurant are certain to find dining at De Grendel a particularly dreamy experience. The refined eatery specialises in creating inventive, modern South African cuisine from locally sourced, seasonal produce, and the ever-changing menu includes starters like Squid with Tomato, Basil, Aubergine, Chermoula and Avocado and mains like succulent pork belly, organic lamb shank and wild mushroom risotto.

Of course, such delicious delicacies go best married with a bottle of vino or two (the staff will gladly make pairing recommendations), and couples can opt to round off their meal with a heavenly dessert – think vanilla panna cotta or a trio of sorbet – that’s bound to be just as sweet as any night out at De Grendel.
