Think of a steel band and the first thing that probably pops into your mind are those sweet Caribbean melodies that are synonymous with island getaways. If this sounds like a great way to spend an evening, then you’re in for a treat. The second Cape Town Steelband Festival will take place at the Baxter Concert Hall on Thursday, 21 April 2016. This concert is a precursor to the annual Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival.
The Cape Town Steelband Festival is the result of a partnership between the Steelband Project and the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival, where the aim is to provide top-quality music education to our young learners in urban, township and rural communities. To date, there are 16 steelbands being tutored on a weekly basis, which amounts to roughly 240 children benefiting from the project.
SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN THE 2016 CAPE TOWN STEELBAND FESTIVAL
