Cool off this summer as Canal Walk transforms into an icy wonderland

Here in South Africa our Christmases are often far removed from the wintery depictions of the festive season we see on the television. The day of love and good cheer usually lands smack in the middle of summer, which means that any dreams of experiencing a snowy and cosy Christmas are dashed faster than Santa’s supersonic sleigh. Until now, that is!

Canal Walk Shopping Centre will transform into a magical wintery wonderland from Friday, 2 December 2016 to Sunday, 8 January 2017. The Ice Adventure will be the perfect spot for family-friendly entertainment during the festive season, and will be open for 12-hours every day with sessions starting at every hour on the hour.

See prehistoric beasts come to life at the exhibition of ice age creatures that features woolly mammoths, sabre-toothed tigers, a terra bird and even a magical Irish elk. Let your kids hitch a ride on the back of a Glyptodon (a prehistoric armadillo that was roughly the size of a VW Beetle) or a Uintatherium (a prehistoric rhino-like beast) and see the Ice Adventure arena from a new perspective!

For the guests with a little more energy, the snow zone is where the thrills and spills can be found. A variety of ice-slides will be set up, including a four-metre high iceberg slide, a double lane glacier slide and a smaller icicle slide for the toddlers. Kids can also run amok and refine their constructive skills as they build snowmen, igloos and ice sculptures with buckets and spades.

If things still aren’t cold enough for you, head to the Sub Zero Ice Chamber for an authentic ancient experience complete with a frozen waterfall and a chilly breeze that will blow your hair back and make you think you’re in the ice age.

The Ice Adventure will be open from 10am to 10pm every day (except Christmas day) and the last sessions start at 9pm. The Ice Age Animal Ride tickets are additional and need to be bought over and above the rider and non-rider tickets.
