All-week, Double-whammy Happy Hour at O’Driscoll’s Irish Pub

Drop kick the stress of the workweek with not one but two hours of discounted drinks

The world is full of injustices. Take, for example, the weekend. Why would it only be two days long when the week stretches for a full five? Similarly, there’s happy hour. The saddest thing about the genius invention of the happy hour is that it ends after a mere 60 minutes.

At most bars.

Fortunately, at O’Driscoll’s Irish pub on the corner of Hout and Burg streets in the Cape Town city centre, happy hour is a little different. Whether it’s the owners’ extreme Irish generosity or perhaps a simple mathematics error (we’re going with generosity), the fact of the matter is that at O’Driscoll’s not only do you get discounted drinks, but you get them for twice the time, from 5pm to 7pm, every day, even on Saturday.

A 500-mL pint of Castle Draught goes for a mere R20, a double brandy and coke is an affordable R30 and a double vodka and Red Bull is as little as R40.

Add to the drinks specials the live music on weekends, the upstairs pool table the non-stop sport on TV and the classic pub grub – try the selection of snack platters, rib specials or chicken strips (the owner’s favourite) - and you have all the ingredients for a great night (or day) out.

What could be better than that a two-hour happy hour? One that happens seven days a week.
