Ajax Cape Town Hosts the Cape Town Cup

Our local boys will face-off against two international teams and one local side in the tournament

The inaugural Cape Town Cup is set to launch at the end of July and our local team will be taking on some stiff competition. Ajax Cape Town will go toe-to-toe with local SuperSport United FC from Pretoria, and two international teams – Sporting Clube de Portugal from Lisbon and Crystal Palace FC from London.

The action-packed tournament will kick off on Friday, 24 July 2015 at 5:45pm when SuperSport United shows Crystal Palace FC some Mzansi diski magic. This match will be followed by the showdown between Ajax Cape Town and Sporting Clube de Portugal at 8:15pm.

The next stage of the festival takes place on Sunday, 26 July when Friday’s losing teams face off at 1pm. This match will be followed by Friday’s winning teams battling for the 2015 Cape Town Cup title, which will start at 3:30pm. Sunday’s games will have no extra time, so winners will be decided by penalty shootouts if there is a draw at the end of the 90 minutes.

“We are calling on all die-hard soccer fans to come out in their numbers armed with their gees. Let us ignite the iconic Cape Town Stadium once again,” said the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, councillor Garreth Bloor.

Currently, Sporting Clube de Portugal is ranked number 24 in the world club rankings according to FIFA. Crystal Palace FC is ranked 78, SuperSport United is 624, and Ajax Cape Town is ranked 822.
