World Naked Bike Ride in Cape Town

Curb the indecent exposure of our planet and dare to bare it all while cycling through the streets of the Mother City!

Are you daring enough to go full monty? Cyclists strip down for the eighth annual World Naked Bike Ride in Cape Town on Saturday, 11 March 2017 as a colourful protest against car culture and oil dependency.

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is a global initiative hosted in around 70 cities, which seeks to create awareness around environmental issues, celebrate the power and individuality of the human body, and highlight the dangers faced by cyclists on local roads. All participating countries in the Southern Hemisphere will drop their tops and bottoms on the same day (11 March) to unite in a peaceful, imaginative and somewhat insane demonstration for these worthy causes.

The event is open to all shapes and sizes, and participants are welcome to participate using any human-powered vehicles. Whether you’re on a bicycle, unicycle, wearing rollerblades or skates, running, jogging or even pushing a wheelchair or pram, the most important thing is that you join in. Bicycles can be rented from one of the many cycle shops in Cape Town.

The meeting point is at the Sea Point Library car park, and the ride kicks off at about 10am. The route makes its way along Main Road towards the CBD, along the Fan Walk, turning down Long Street, Buiten Street, Bree Street and back onto Main Road towards the starting line.

As always, the (un)dress code for the Cape Town Naked Bike Ride is ‘As Bare As You Dare’, so participants can decide on just how little they want to cover up or show off; body paint is highly encouraged and cyclists can use their bodies as a canvas to display their protest slogan.

DO NOTE: No creepy gawkers allowed at the ride please.
