ERA Nightclub in Cape Town

The forward-thinking CBD-based club and lounge for electro-loving audiophiles

There’s no denying that the Cape Town nightlife scene is one of the most vibrant in the world, local and visiting audiophiles can hop into one of the Mother City's top electro music venues - ERA - to bear witness to that experience.

The two-storey hotspot, which sits on Cape Town’s bustling Loop Street, has superhero tendencies: by day (Tuesday to Friday), it serves up tasty tapas and fine cuisine, and by night (Friday and Saturday), it transforms into a tricked-out, futuristic club that’s become a much-needed electro-mecca for Capetonian music lovers.

As its name suggests, ERA is all about celebrating a time in history – more specifically, it’s out to pay its respects to both current and past epochs of electronic, house, deep house and techno music by curating a special selection of quality beats for revelers. 

“The reason why we are so specific about our music selection is because we want to create a space that is dedicated to the development of electronic music in Cape Town. We respect the artists who created the electronic music scene and we also want to provide a platform for those up-and-coming artists,” says Marketing and Brand Manager Dallen Levitan.

Accordingly, musical line-ups comprise an eclectic mix of veteran and new artists such as Killer Robot, Lady M, Craig de Sousa, Ian Skene, Jimmy Chronic and many more. Not to mention, the performers’ pulsating beats will be projected onto the dance floor by a state-of-the-art, 78kw Funktion One sound system, which is one of the best of its kind in the world.

And that’s not where the forward-thinking technology ends: the roof and walls of the club area are adorned with over 1.2-km of LED lights, which are capable of all sorts of fancy tricks, and there’s a super cool interactive motion-active wall, which, with the help of gaming technology, maps your dance moves and then interprets and projects them as a series of awesome graphics and images.

“We are very focused on quality: the music, service and lighting are top-notch. The whole visual element is mind-blowing, and we want people to come here and be entertained and experience something they haven’t experienced before,” asserts Dallen.

And while the nightclub is open to the general public, patrons must register for a free membership either on ERA’s website or at the door in order to enter.

“Basically the membership programme is a loyalty programme that provides people with loyalty benefits based on patrons’ involvement with the brand, whether it is through engaging with us on social media or through attendance. This will all amount to certain benefits and allows us to get to know our customers better,” adds Dallen.

All in all, it is safe to say that ERA gets a Roger Ebert-esque two thumbs up from the thriving Capetonian electronic music community.

The Bill: The entrance fee for ERA Nightclub will depend on the acts playing on a specific night, but patrons can expect to pay R100p/p and up.  ERA serves tapas and other dishes, which range in price from R35 to R150.

Do note: Guys and girls must be over 23 and 21 years of age respectively to enter ERA Nightclub.
