Spotlight On Gender-Based Violence at The Enough is Enough Photo Art Exhibition

This photo art exhibition is highlighting the seriousness of gender-based violence in South Africa

The Enough is Enough Photo Art Exhibition, currently on show at the Slave Lodge Museum, will be running at the lodge until Friday, 31 August 2018, and is helping raise awareness of gender-based violence in South Africa.

The photo art exhibition came from two projects. A writing project,  Every Scar Tells A Story; 1000 Women 1 Voice campaign, an initiative of the 1000 Women Trust where stories were expressed and shared, as well as captured on video in the effort for survivors to talk about what happened and to heal. The second project consisted of photo images, shared on various platforms to raise awareness for gender-based violence.

The projects were launched as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children late last year.

“Through the exhibition (images/voices) we are therefore hoping to highlight the seriousness of the escalating violence against women and children,” says Tina Thiart, one of the founding members of 1000 Women 1 Voice

SWEAT (Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce) and Antonia Porter’s exhibition, Still Figuring Out What It Means to be a Man, are also collaborators on this photo art exhibition.

The exhibition will be carried through to the end of August 2018, women’s’ month in South Africa.

The launch of this joint exhibition is planned for April 2018 at the Lodge.
