New Year, New Cape Town
Are locals keen to start a Capetonian resolution?
As the silly season of excess reaches its end we stare at the extra notches on our belts and recoil in horror at flashbacks of too many pigs in blankets, slices of Christmas cake and glasses of mulled wine. It's time for a New Year resolution Cape Town. Do one push up a day, sell more coffee, be considerate to old ladies, bear in mind that the name Vetkoek carries its name for a reason, find that gap in the market, plan to take over the world or simply slow life down. After asking the lovely people of Cape Town what their New Year resolutions are I've got a sneaky feeling that this year will be a good one.
John: "World domination as usual! You have to take your hopes and dreams seriously! In my spare time, when I'm not ruling the world, I'd like to do more push ups and get more familiar with getting things right."
Judd: "My New Year resolution is to sell more coffee. What else is there in life? I always plan to have more fun and sleep more but that never works out. I choose coffee."
Peter: "I'm going to be much more considerate and kinder to ladies. For years I've had the same resolutions and never carried out a single one of them but that's what they're for, aren't they?"
Jean: "I don't believe in making New Year resolutions because a week later I've forgotten about them. I once resolved to lose weight but you know what happens..."
Shale: "I don't normally do New Year resolutions because I wonder why it takes a specific time of year to prompt change. I suppose it's a good opportunity to reflect on and think about what you want to change."
Sean: "I plan to get a few more amateur fights under my belt in order to compete in mixed martial arts at a professional level."
Redewaan: "I'd like to find a zest for life. I'd like to go out and challenge myself and develop myself personally, mentally, physically and spiritually. I'd like to find something that means something to me."
Glen: "After many years New Year resolutions have let me down, or perhaps I've let them down. I would rather have goals this year including relocating from Kwa Zulu Natal down to the Western Cape."
Tobias: "I want to live a slow life involving slow food and slow money."
Annie: "I've been travelling for a few months through Brazil, Argentina and South Africa so when I return to the UK I want to get back into a routine. I'd like to get fit, start eating healthily and I'm also starting university next September."
Rashaad: "I'm an entrepreneur so I want to make a lot of money by being inventive and looking out for gaps I can fill."
Ellen: "I want to travel and I am very excited about visiting my brother in China this year."
Tino: "I plan to travel many countries in Africa this year, starting with Mozambique in one month."
Sascha: "This year I hope to finish Peace Corps and go to grad school but those aspirations will kind of happen on their own as they're planned in advance."
