Game on for Cape Town’s Soccer Double Header

Rekindle the magic of the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Four top teams will battle it out on the pitch as Cape Town Stadium hosts a Double Header Soccer Event on Friday 27th August, 2010.

Part of an initiative to reinstate ‘Football Fridays’, the Double Header will leverage the success already achieved by Cape Town Stadium during the FIFA World Cup 2010. It is also to thank Capetonians for the part they played in making Cape Town an excellent host city.

“For those who’ve not yet experienced an event in Cape Town Stadium or for those who were not amongst the 507 000 spectators who saw the World Cup Matches there, this is the ideal opportunity,” explained Peter Cronje, Director of Communications for the City of Cape Town, “All those who saw any of the test events and World Cup games can relive the excitement and stadium experience.”

The event - dubbed the ‘real deal’- will mark the official opener for the ABSA Premiership 2010 season and will kick off with local team Vasco de Gama v’s Orlando Pirates, followed by Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Fan Walk, a huge part of the FIFA World Cup 2010, will be fully operational and organizers hope to rekindle the fan power elicited during World Cup Games.

“We want fan park revelers to enjoy the ‘real thing’ and are hoping to rekindle some of the magic,” says Morne du Plessis, Chairman of stadium operator SAIL STADEFRANCE.

Tickets for the game are available from all Computicket outlets, from R40 - R80. Parking Tickets, including disabled bay tickets, are also available from Computicket, from R30 – R50. Visitors are advised to purchase tickets beforehand, arrive early, travel light and use public transport.

Cape Town Stadium Gates will open at 16:00. However visitors are being asked to heed the following: short fold up umbrellas will be allowed; no cameras with extended photographic lenses will be allowed; no food or drink is allowed and no prams or bicycles are allowed.
