Kuier@The Castle is more than a market. It’s the biggest family-friendly lifestyle event in the city, featuring a diverse array of Cape Town creative talent. It takes place on the last Saturday every month at the Castle of Good Hope (this month it’s 28 September).
There’s over 120 makers curated by the Craft + Design Institute, so you know the quality is great; creative workshops; fashion shows; and more. Here’s 10 reasons to go, including the fact that we have 5 five sets of tickets for you to win so you can bring the whole family.

It’s a warm and creative gathering of people from all walks of life. They bring along their families to enjoy shopping from artists and artisans and listen to the stories of the makers while their kids dance to the live music.
For the price of the entry, you also get access to free guided tours of the 385-year-old Castle of Good Hope.
You can visit the Camissa room, old garrisons, a ceramics collection titled "Fired – An exhibition of South African ceramics", and the William Fehr collection of oil paintings, furniture, ceramics, metal and glassware.
It opens at 10am and closes at 4pm. People tend to stay for a couple of hours, wander from stall to stall and into the nooks and crannies of the Castle. The market is in the square under stretch tents, and there’s a harvest table and comfy bean bags scattered everywhere.

There’s a smorgasbord of over 60 makers with interesting stories. The amazing luxury women’s wear designer Thabo Makhetha is there.
So are ceramists and textile designers, like Whimsical Collection, who do dreamy prints. Kingsdale Emporium, with their tongue-in-cheek, conversation-starter statement socks, have a stall too.
What sets Kuier apart from a regular market are the creative workshops. Make a candle holder, crochet a protea, or learn carpet tufting and cookie decoration.
There’s also a bling charm workshop for kids. People tend to gravitate to the diffuser station, to make a diffuser from wooden beads and essential oils. Buy your workshop tickets at the market or online via Quicket.

There's fashion shows too; this month’s is curated by Thabo Makhetha. There’ll also be music from Milly, who sings cover songs from Alicia Keys and Bob Marley, and the Cape Audio College DJs will play South African songs, from Vicki Sampson to amapiano.

There’s three anchor trucks and a couple of new additions every month. People keep coming back for more of Cape Malay, Ground Culture, loved for their burgers, and Local Brew. Greek Eats and Vegan Streetfoods are recent additions.
Entry is discounted for market Saturdays. Families will be happy to know kids under seven get in for free, and it's R15 for pensioners, students and children aged seven to 17. For everyone else, it’s just R30.
It’s easy access to the Castle via the Darling Street, there’s a side pathway. There's also arrows and signage on the street poles to point people to where the parking is. Plus there’s plenty of security.
