All eyes will be on Cape Town City when they lock horns with Polokwane City in a MTN8 Cup match on Saturday, 12 August 2017 at Cape Town Stadium.
The Citizens, as they are known, will be eager to kick off their season on a high, especially following their stellar performance in the 2016/2017 season. For much of the league they were the title contenders, even pushing current champions Bidvest Wits to the finish line. Luckily the side from the Mother City managed to secure silverware – the Telkom Knockout Cup.
This season sees the return of the ‘Kaapse Klong’ Benni McCarthy, taking charge of Cape Town City as head coach. McCarthy recently completed his UEFA A-licence and will be making his debut this season. He expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him to lead a team who performed well under Eric Tinkler.

Cape Town City have made their intentions clear for the coming season by strengthening their squad during the transfer market. The Citizens have bolstered their attack by securing players like Teko Modise, Lyle Lakay and Nana Akosah-Bempah for this coming campaign. Having fallen short of a league title by five points in their debut season, Benni and his charges will be out for blood when the whistle blows for kick off.
