Casual Indulgence At The Athletic Club & Social

Cosy enough for romantic dates, but equally well-paired to group gatherings, this three-storey bar and restaurant is pure opulence!

If you’ve driven along Buitengracht Street in the evening recently, you’d have noticed a lively new spot – The Athletic Club & Social. The brown-hued three-storey Victorian building is bringing new life and class to the inner city. There is a large veranda looking out onto the mountains and cosy corners to eat, drink and relax.

The tapas bar and restaurant offers a menu combining Greek, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The coal-fired rotisserie will transport you far north-east with authentic pita breads loaded with lamb or chicken.  All meats and fish are sustainably and ethically sourced. They serve lunch, dinner, drinks and coffee.

THE FOOD AND DRINKS
The tapas selection will tempt you to share a selection of plates with your friends. Think charred aubergine with black garlic emulsion served with sweet potato crisps and pine nuts or salt-baked celeriac with pea salsa verde, white bean purée and roasted hazelnuts.

Tuck into the line fish with zesty citrus escabeche and finish off with baklava cigars or cherry frangipani tart with mascarpone. The vegan ice-cream will have you begging for the recipe.
