Award-winning local singer-songwriter Arno Carstens and seasoned Afrikaans rocker Francois van Coke are set to perform at Die Boer dinner theatre in Durbanville from Thursday, 16 to Saturday, 18 May 2013. The three shows form part of the dynamic duo’s mini unplugged tour of Mzansi.
The unique collaboration between two of South Africa’s leading rock artists will take the country by storm with concerts in three cities: Cape Town, Pretoria and Sandton. The line-up for each show includes hits from the Springbok Nude Girls, Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel (bands that the two musicans have been lead singers for), as well as popular tracks from Arno Carstens’s solo career and a few cover songs from both artists.
Born in Bellville, Francois van Coke provides the vocals for two of the groups mentioned above: the controversial Afrikaans rock band Fokofpolisiekar and punk rock posse Van Coke Kartel. During his illustrious 10-year career, the lead singer has garnered three South African Music Awards (SAMAs) and multiple MK Awards, produced six full-length albums and three EPs (extended play records) and teamed up with other local legends, like Jack Parow, Die Antwoord and Die Heuwels Fantasties.
With similar successes behind him, former Springbok Nude Girls front man Arno Carstens is, quite possibly, South Africa’s most notable rock artist. The Cape Town-born powerhouse boasts 10 studio albums, 20 top 10 singles and five SAMAs, and he shows very little sign of slowing down. Not only has the superstar featured at every major SA music festival, but he’s also performed internationally at some of the world’s most renowned fairs (think Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, V Festival, T in the Park and Hard Rock Calling). Not to mention, he’s shared the stage with musical greats like U2, The Rolling Stones, Paul Weller, The Police, Simple Minds, INXS and R.E.M, and has even ventured beyond the world of top tunes to delve into the field of fine art (he hosted his first exhibition at the Lovell Gallery in Woodstock in 2012).
