Cape Town is probably the best place in the world -no bragging here- to learn how to kitesurf. The fact that six of the best kitesurfers in the world came here to train last season, proves that the city is a great and versatile kitesurfing destination for both beginners and pro's.

At CapeTownMagazine.com we have selected Cabrinha Kiting as a recommended kitesurfing school for kite surfing lessons.

Cabrinha Kitesurfing School has been teaching eager pupils to ride the wind since 2000.They are a fully qualified IKO (international kiteboarding organizagion) instructor and a cool crowd of kitesurfing fanatics that know their business.

Their kitesurfing school/shop is situated
right on the beachfront in Table View, overlooking a postcard-perfect view of Table Mountain. The shop is also conveniently located next to world-renowned kitesurfing location, Kitebeach.

Cabrinha Kiting is open seven days a
week and offers three lesson times per day: 10am, 2pm and 5pm. Lessons are conducted at Kitebeach and can be held in English or German (by arrangement). If weather conditions are not suitable at Kitebeach in Bloubergstrand, lessons will take place at the Langebaan Lagoon.

Each kitesurfing lesson takes two hours and costs R395 (approx $55). It takes most people about four to six lessons to get up on a board. Cabrinha recommends that you try to do a maximum of two two-hour lessons per day. That way you can finish a six-lesson kitesurfing course in three days (weather permitting) and you're set to go.

Session one takes place on Kitebeach and will teach you basic wind effects, kite setup, safety theory and routines, kite launching and landing and harness basics.

Session two takes place in the water and you will learn all about: Body dragging, directional control in the water, water relaunching, advanced safety routines and deepwater kite pack-down.

In session three you will experience the thrill of your first real kitesurfing ride. You will learn how to control your board and kitesurf from A to B.

Kitesurfing classes are made up of a maximum of two people to ensure that you receive all the individual attention you need. They also offer private kitesurfing lessons for groups of friends.

Cabrinha will provide you with all the necessary kitesurfing equipment, so all you need to bring is sunblock, a hat, sunglasses, a bathing costume, closed shoes and a warm top.

Cabrinha Kiting also offers one-on-one lessons for intermediate kitesurfers, who wish to take their riding to the next level. You will ride together with a kitesurfing instructor who will demonstrate examples and monitor your efforts on our 6km downwind course from Sunset Beach to Kitebeach. You will get coached on: Jumping technique, waveriding, transitions and advanced freestyle moves. The cost of these kitesurfing lessons are R700 (approx $80) per 2hour session.
