Celebrate International Pinotage Day at this wondrous Wellington wine estate

Join fellow wine lovers and merrymakers at this sublime celebration of South Africa’s only indigenous grape varietal – Pinotage. The Wellington Wines Pinotage Day (which coincides with International Pinotage Day) will barrel into the Bovlei tasting venue on Bainskloof Road on Saturday, 8 October 2016.

The jam-packed day of family-friendly activities will begin with an amusing Pinotage Pilates session in which the ordinary Pilates weights will be replaced by a bottle of vino and a tasting glass, which you can take home as proof of your exceptional exercise choice. The first session begins at 8am, but don’t worry if that’s too early; there will be more taking place throughout the day.

As Pinotage is the focus of this vino affair, the spectacular grape varietal will be the anchor of various food pairings. Sip on whole-bodied Pinotage-based reds while tucking into biltong, boerewors frikadelle or chocolate brownies, and let their flavours dance around on your tongue before delighting in another sip. Unique tasting experiences will take place throughout the day, and guests can take full advantage of the 10% discount being offered on Pinotage sales, but Wellington Wines will encourage you to donate that saving to the Pink Drive in aid of breast cancer awareness.

After sampling the delicious produce on offer by the tasting room, take a casual stroll around the market and indulge in some retail therapy. There will be an incredible selection of Pinotage-inspired products, ranging from jams and chutneys to relishes and sauces. To keep the atmosphere alive and vibrant, Wellington’s very own rock band, The Inside Job, will perform live on stage.

What’s more, the day will wind down with a lavish touch at 7pm where you can participate in the formal gala dinner, consisting of a hearty three-course menu with impeccable wine pairings. On arrival, attendees will receive a glass of La Cave Pinot Noir MCC with a mini tomato and pesto bruschetta snack. Starters will consist of bobotie spring rolls with Pinotage chutney and a delicious 2015 Pinotage. Following this, guests will tuck into a slow-roasted lamb shank on a bed of creamy cauliflower mash, dressed in a Pinotage sauce. To top off the delectable dinner, a decadent dark chocolate tart with poached Pinotage pears will be served alongside the multi award-winning 2013 La Cave Cape Blend.

Tickets to the vino celebration are available online via Quicket.co.za and will cost R150p/p, which includes access to a Pinotage Pilates class, a free wine tasting and a Pinotage pairing. Children under the age of 18 get in for free. The long table dinner will cost R450p/p, and reservations can be made by emailing marketing@wellingtonwines.com.
