HogtoberFest at Spier Wine Farm

Pig out on smoky pork and hogwash it all down with the finest craft beer

Looking for an excuse to drink beer and be merry? The Hoghouse Brewing Company invites you to their craft beer and smokehouse street food festival, aptly called HogtoberFest, on Saturday, 8 October 2016. This juicy, savoury celebration will have you salivating as it takes over Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch.

A range of craft brews will be on tap, including all of the Hoghouse ales (even a once-off HogtoberFest Beer, brewed just for this occasion), so you can sip and sample some of the Cape’s finest amber beverages. The Hoghouse crew have organised a boat race challenge with all of the other breweries attending the event, such as Aegir Project, Wild Clover and Stellenbosch Brewing Co, which means the finest brew masters will settle who can drink the fastest.

If bubbly beers are not quite your thing, fear not. You can wet your lips with some other liquor from the beverage stalls at the festival, including the Spier wine stand, Bain’s Whisky stall and the Van Ryn’s Brandy bar. No festival would be complete without a selection of lip-smacking morsels to sink your teeth into.

The Hoghouse team will be cooking up a Bavarian street food storm of porky proportions. Think delicious Eisbein that falls off the bone, or smoked brisket buns that dissolve on your tongue. An array of tantalising hogdogs, bakery breads and Brezels, Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese custard tarts) and creamy gelatos will be served to hungry attendees looking to soak up the booze.

Live music will fill the farm for the duration of the festival to keep the jovial atmosphere alight. Large screen TVs will be hooked up, so avid sports fans will not miss out on the Currie Cup semi-finals, and more active festival-goers can compete against their mates in a few of the lawn games that will be set up.

Tickets to the beer and food festival are available online via Quicket.co.za and will cost R150p/p, which includes a branded HogtoberFest beer mug. Children under 12 years old get in for free. The festival kicks off at 11am and squeals to a halt at 11pm.
