De Grendel’s 2011 Season of Sauvignon festival line-up is a breath of fresh air, literally.... from lazy lounging on the lawns on artisan fare, trying your hand (and feet) at pétanque, discovering the x-factor of sauvignon in a guided tasting, to flying in style and mountain-biking for the more energetic. Stay for the day or hop, skip and jump from one wine farm to the next. Just note that for some activities you can just arrive; for the more exclusive, limited events you need to book.
Savour, sip and nose Sauvignon – a guided tasting at Die Kliphuis: 1 & 2 October
Eager to learn more about Sauvignon Blanc’s wow factor? Our winemakers Elzette du Preez and Charles Hopkins will take your senses through two flights, exploring different styles of the variety and its ageing potential. Adding to the exhilaration is the 4x4 ride to get there.
Booking is essential. Cost per person is R150. Contact Christelle van Niekerk on 021 558 6280 or Christelle@degrendel.co.za for booking and pre-payment details.
Lion of Africa De Grendel MTB Challenge: 2 October.
The Lion of Africa De Grendel Mountain Bike Challenge takes place on Sunday morning over 10 km, 30 km and 55 km.
About the route: The 10 km and 30km routes take place on the De Grendel Wine Estate, while the 55 km track meanders through neighbouring farms. All routes offer breath-taking views of Table Bay, Table Mountain and False Bay. Riders will be faced with steep climbs and some bumpy hills. For more details visit www.pedalpower.org.za.
Entries close on 30 September.
The Season of Sauvignon festival is when the Durbanville Wine Valley truly comes to life – there’s even an Elvis impersonator playing in an abandoned quarry and plenty for the kids to do at Nitida Wine Estate.
