Western Cape achieves 100% clean audit

Local government commended on good governance

Last Update 18 April 2017

Congratulations to the Western Cape Government, who has once again achieved a 100% unqualified audit, for all provincial departments for the second year in a row. The announcement reasserts confidence in the provinces efforts to maintain clean governance and service delivery.

There was a total of 11 audits achieved, with the Western Cape Department of Health being the only department in the sector in the country to receive an unqualified audit. AG (Auditor General) Kimi Makwetu announced the 2015/2016 Audit Outcomes at a press conference on 13 April 2017.

The audit places an unquantifiable amount of confidence in the stability of the leadership. Mr Makwetu referred to the management team as, “the drivers of key controls for the year…” the Government has implemented, “goof resource management” which he said, “ensured stability at senior management level, the availability of adequately and sufficiently skilled resources and the regular monitoring of the performance of officials.”

Premier of the Western Cape Helen Zille added that, “It is always encouraging when we receive good audit outcomes, especially in big budget departments such as Health. We are inspired by these results, and will continue to improve on all indicators.”
