Olifantsbos

Your own private beach at Cape Point

Cape Point offers the ultimate natural experience, from the fynbos and uninterrupted views to the galloping ostriches and grazing buck you’ll need a couple of days to take it all in. Olifantsbos cottage offers this opportunity with your very own private beach thrown in for good measure. The two houses are backed by craggy rock faces and look out onto a quiet stretch of beach.

Accommodation
The main cottage sleeps six in three double rooms, there’s one master bedroom and two others with two three quarter beds each. There’s a fully kitted kitchen, a bathroom with a bath and separate shower as well as an open plan lounge and dining area with a fireplace. The sheltered stoep, which looks out towards the beach, has a built in braai area with table and chairs.

The smaller annex cottage next door also sleeps six in two rooms – one which sleeps two and the other which sleeps four. It has its own bathroom but no kitchen as it is used as extra accommodation for large groups renting the main cottage.

Things to do

  • There are plenty of great walks through this nature reserve
  • Fishing is allowed with a permit
  • Take the Flying Dutchman up to the lighthouse lookout
  • Keep your eyes peeled for wild ostriches, Cape otter, buck, and baboons
  • Bring your binoculars to watch the many birds that call this nature reserve home
  • There are some amazing scenic walks you can do, read about them here.

Good to know

  • Linen is provided in both cottages
  • The cottages are self-catering so you’ll need to bring food
  • The road to the cottage is blocked off from the public so the serenity of your cottage and beach is protected
  • The kitchen and geyser are gas fuelled to minimise the environmental impact
  • The lights are solar powered and water is sourced from tanks so guests are asked to conserve energy and water
  • This is an extremely popular spot and can be booked out a year in advance during season so contact them as soon as possible to secure a booking.

Rates
The main cottage costs R2640 per night for six people with an additional R290 charged per extra adult and R145 per extra child. Cape Point conservation fees are not included. SANParks offers a 20% discount off accommodation in its Cape Town region parks in May, June and July.
