Capetonian David Kleynhans is Cycling to Help the Frail

Cape Town's Aged and F.R.A.I.L to benefit from 24 hour Cape Town to Knysna marathon cycle

David Kleynhans’ bike has been busy – it’s been burning rubber on roads all along South Africa and has just recently travelled from Cape Town to Knysna and back again in just 24 hours. What for?

“I’m using my bicycle as my messenger,” says Kleynhans, “to gather support for those who nurtured me and to give back to those who gave to me.”

Kleynhans, who has a blood disorder with thrombosis in one leg and is awaiting further treatment for his condition, is cycling in support of F.R.A.I.L (Friendship, Relatives, Acceptance, Involvement, Love), an organisation that cares for the aged.

After his most recent 24 hour Cape Town to Knysna cycle - his third cycle in aid of the Cape Town charity - Kleynhans was met by Councillor Grant Pascoe, Mayoral Committee member for Social Services.

Through the 24 hour marathon cycle, Kleynhans aimed to raise awareness for this organisation and raise funds for the care of the aged.

He was barely off his bike when he started to talk of his plans for his next endeavour take part in the Golden Games in Cape Town in September, which will be supported by the City of Cape Town.

This sporting event will form part of Kleynhans’ next effort, with his journey beginning at the opening of the games and finishing at the culmination of the event three days later.

If you are a sports buff and would like to help those in your community, now is your chance to get involved with Kleynhans and F.R.A.I.L. Apart from donations, Kleynhans is looking for support to keep the momentum of these various cycle events going.

The organisation is calling for those with expertise in their fields to give of their time and knowledge to help the organisation raise awareness. They are in particular need of expertise on how to develop the organisation through online marketing and a website.

“Everyone needs to give of their expertise to make this work,” said Kleynhans, “give what you know best.”
