Laid back and chilled downstairs and smart-casual upstairs at Quay Four
Say the name ‘Quay Four’ and locals and foreigners, who have visited Cape Town at least once before, will almost always have a story to tell about the V&A’s Quay Four Waterfront Tavern. After 18 years of serving up good food at wallet friendly prices, Quay Four has sealed its place as a legendary Cape Town hangout.
The Cape Town tavern is a popular spot in summer and is often packed with people looking to unwind on weekday evenings and weekends. The terrace of the renowned downstairs tavern buzzes with locals and visitors virtually every day of the year. The terrace seats 360 people and is a great place to meet and sip beer as the sun sets over the V&A Waterfront.
Live Music
With live bands every night, the tavern is all about keeping guests entertained and giving people a space to relax, unwind and enjoy a good meal without breaking the bank.
“We’re in the entertainment industry, says Robbie Greyling - General Manager for Quay Four. “We want people to come through to have a fantastic meal, experience fantastic service and be entertained.”
Quay Four Tavern offers a variety of light meals and salads, as well as hearty pub fare for those with a bigger appetite. Everyone enjoys the tavern's famous ‘fish and chips’ and paired with a beer - from their wide selection of local and international brews - you’ve got the makings of a perfect Sunday afternoon.
Downstairs is laid back to the nth degree – wooden picnic tables and cane furniture softened with red Jägermeister cushions provide a relaxing vibe for an all round crowd. From young students, looking for a quiet party with friends, to the older crowd looking for a place to enjoy chilled after work drinks, Quay Four welcomes them all.
But even with its legendary status in Cape Town, few people actually know there is a hidden secret just upstairs. Quay Four has an elegant upstairs restaurant where the emphasis is on fresh seafood and good service, but also ensuring good value for money. A little more formal than its downstairs sibling, Quay Four’s upstairs restaurant is a smart casual dining experience where dinners can relax and enjoy their meal while looking out on to a simply breathtaking view of the waterfront.
There's down... and there's up!
Upstairs @ Quay Four also boasts a wide selection of wines for all wine lovers in and around Cape Town. The restaurant’s simple white table clothes, wooden chairs and stylish yachting theme will have you unwinding in no time, and their varied selection on the menu will have you spoilt for choice.
‘Have-to-have’ dishes include the exquisitely prepared Cape Lobster, the succulent peanut and sweet chili calamari, and the seared tuna. Their sushi rainbow rolls are also a great summer choice or you can opt for the sumptuous seafood platter and enjoy the best of both worlds. For those who have more land-based taste buds, the menu also includes a great feast of meat and poultry dishes.
The Quay Four’s upstairs restaurant is also open for breakfast everyday and offers a great selection of fry-ups and coffees. Take your place on the balcony outside on a fresh sunny morning with your coffee in hand and watch Cape Town come alive, while reading your e-mails via the free Wi-Fi provided.
Quay Four is four-in-one: laid-back sundowners, well-priced lunches, smart-casual dinners and unbeatable V&A Waterfront location.
