Linkin Park Cape Town Concert

Famous American rap-rockers play live at the Cape Town Stadium in November 2012

Linkin Park, the American band that ripped through the rock scene in 2000 with lung-shredding rebel yells and high-powered hip-hop stomps, are playing live in concert at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday, 7 November 2012.

Or for those who don't speak rock 'n roll, the artists who sing “In the End”, a chart-topper in 2001, will be travelling to Mzansi soil as part of an international tour.

Though the rap-rockers’ blockbuster phase came and went over a decade ago, they’re hot off the release of their fifth studio album, “Living Things” (June 2012), and South African audiences can expect the same kind of emotionally and physically brutal performance that the group has been known for since inception.Think mosh pits, defiant screams and high voltage entertainment.

All said though, as much as Linkin Park is associated with the same aggressive angst attached to similar alt-metal bands, like Korn and Limp Bizkit, the artists are also often described as the guys that you wouldn’t mind bringing home to your mother. A fact which seems to have gotten the better of them lately. Their newest album is a clear departure from the power chords and melodic grunge that best characterised their break-out EP “Hybrid Theory”, and has been described (by Rolling Stone) as “experimental” and “electronics-loving”.

Needless to say, chances are Linkin Park won’t let an entire Cape Town concert pass by without giving fans the chance to sing/scream along to some old favourites: “Crawling”, “In the End” and “Papercut” included.
