Nothing cures the cold chill quite like comfort food. Warm, filling mouthfuls of spicy, flavoursome food is the best way to beat the winter blues. This season MAReSOL is offering an irresistible winter menu for diners looking to thaw from the inside out.
Recently opened at the V&A Waterfront, this proudly Portuguese restaurant offers food lovers a dining experience that is lacking in the area. “The majority of the cuisine at the V&A is seafood. We also have great seafood dishes on our menu but we wanted to offer more variety too,” says marketing manager, Michelle Smit. Their menu is bursting with options for diners who enjoy their food hot and spicy, mild with a little kick, or safe and tepid. “Portuguese food is very tricky because everyone likes their spice at varying degrees,” Michelle shares, but the staff are happy to explain the dishes and their degree of spiciness to you.

The set winter menu is available as a two- or three-course meal at R165p/p and R195p/p respectively. Diners have a choice of the following:
Starters:
Kale soup served with chorizo
OR
Pan-fried calamari with chorizo, roasted cherry tomatoes, black olives and rocket
OR
Chicken livers with onion piri piri
Main Course:
Seafood cataplana of prawns, catch of the day, calamari, chorizo and rice
OR
Prime 250g sirloin steak with fried eggs and Portuguese sauce, served with two sides
OR
Chicken espetada served with peppers, baby tomatoes and two sides
Dessert
Pastei de Nata, served with vanilla ice cream
OR
Chocolate tart, served with vanilla ice cream
MAReSOL’s a la carte menu will provide those not already salivating with satisfying options. Because they are open all day, including breakfast service, you can take advantage of their special. Or try their Rabanadas for R45 each. A serving of Beira, which is two eggs, chorizo or bacon, tomato and a Portuguese roll, is only R45. The bacon-wrapped prawn dish combines sweet and savoury in an absolutely appetising way, and only costs R95. A smoked salmon salad costs R109 and a mammoth MAReSOL spectacular – which comes with four tiger giants, four king prawns, four langoustines, calamari tubes, 12 mussels and line fish – will cost you R1850.

Vegetarians are also catered for at this picturesque eatery. For R69 you can tuck into a chickpea curry, or a spicy tomato soup for only R65.
