ATKV Oesfees

Celebrate Human Rights Day weekend and the end of the Franschhoek harvest with a foot-tapping good time at this annual festival at the Solms-Delta wine estate

Looking for things to do with the kids on Human Rights Day weekend in the Winelands? Look no further! Enjoy some old-school, farm-style foods, traditional Afrikaans entertainment and fine wines at the 2016 ATKV Oesfees at Solms-Delta Wine Estate on Saturday, 19 March 2016. For more information and to book, contact +27 (0) 21 874 3937 or info@solms-delta.co.za.

Brought to you by the Afrikaanse Taal-en Kultuurvereniging (Afrikaans Language and Culture Association), better known as the ATKV, this family-friendly yearly harvest fair pays homage to rural Boland culture, good ol’ fashioned kaapsekos and the rhythms of the region with hot traditional musical acts and more. In addition to merely providing guests a chance to indulge in the bounty reaped from Franschhoek’s fields, the celebration also gives thanks to those – the farm workers – who make the harvest possible.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2016 ATKV OESFEES AT SOLMS-DELTA WINE ESTATE

TOE-TAPPING TUNES AND DANCING:  This fun-filled family outing features a line-up bound to keep heads bopping and bodies moving. Musicians on the bill include the likes of Idols alumni and pop rock musician Elvis Blue, singer and actor extraordinaire Emo Adams, Afrikaans legend Koos Kombuis and the Radio Kalahari Orkes, to mention a few.

HEARTY FARE & TOP-NOTCH WINES: What better way to complement this rural music festival than with soul-satisfying home-cooked food from the ATKV Oesfees kitchen. Tuck into foods your grandmother cooked, or if you’re not from the Cape, sample authentic kaapsekos favourites like snoek and sweet potato, and waterblommetjiebredie, as well as treats such as samoosas and koeksisters. Apart from the delicious grub on offer, festival-goers can pair their meals with a glass or three of Solms-Delta’s delicious range of wines.

SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS: Little ones will be kept busy at the Bashews Kidz Zone, where children, under the supervision of the qualified staff from Kidz at Heart, can pick and choose from the range of fun things to do. The kiddies’ area offers a host games and activities including arts, crafts, balloon modelling, face painting, and even croquet on the lawn. Do note that the children’s area is strictly supervised, parents must personally sign their tots in and both parent and child will receive matching armbands; no child will be allowed to leave this area without their mom or dad.
