ATKV Oesfees

Celebrate Human Rights Day weekend and the end of the Franschhoek harvest with a foot-tapping good time at this annual festival at the Solms-Delta wine estate

The ATKV Oesfees is back this year for its 10th birthday celebration. Happening on Saturday, 25 March 2017 this festival is the perfect way to ensure a fun-filled day for the entire family. Head down to Solms-Delta Wine Estate and enjoy old-school, farm-style foods, traditional Afrikaans entertainment and fine wines.

Brought to you by the Afrikaanse Taal-en Kultuurvereniging (Afrikaans Language and Culture Association), better known as the ATKV, this family-friendly yearly harvest fair pays homage to rural Boland culture, good ol’ fashioned kaapsekos and the rhythms of the region with hot traditional musical acts and more. In addition to merely providing guests a chance to indulge in the bounty reaped from Franschhoek’s fields, the celebration also gives thanks to those – the farm workers – who make the harvest possible.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2017 ATKV OESFEES AT SOLMS-DELTA WINE ESTATE

It's A Party: In line with their 10th birthday celebrations, the ATKV team have upped the ante with this year’s line up. Musicians like The Rudimentals, Hemelbesem and the African Jazz Pioneers will get the crowd moving in preparation for the festival's headliner Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Having been making music for over fifty years, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is an institution in not only South Africa, but the world over. The group have been long standing members of the music industry with four Grammy awards and 15 Grammy nominations as well as features with renowned artists like Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Sarah McLachlan and Josh Groban, to name a few. Not only have the dominated their field within the music industry, they've ventured into film too having appeared on Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and Spike Lee’s Do It A Cappella. A film documentary titled On Tiptoe: Gentle Steps to Freedom, the story of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, was also nominated for an Academy Award.

Among some of the annual ATKV Oesfees highlights is the performance by winners of the ATKV Riel Dance Final. The Betjies from Betjiesfontein were the winners of the ATKV 2016 Riel Dance competition in the junior category and will take to the stage to entertain with their impressive footwork, also on stage will be previous winners the Nuwe Koue Grastrappers.

The ATKV is fun-filled festival suitable for the whole family with ample provision being made for all tastes and preferences.
