30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
Hermanus is known for being one of the best whale-watching spots in the world, but here’s another secret: the coastal town becomes a hub of vino-loving activity over the festive season. For those not in know and wanting to get a taste of the Western Cape’s and South Africa’s premium wines, the 10th annual Wine Celebration at the Wine Village shop in Hermanus from Friday, 5 December 2014 to Tuesday, 25 January 2015 is an easy way to get to grips with the country’s offering.
Founded in 2004, the Wine Celebration festival has grown and become a successful event on any wine lover’s calendar, this year giving visitors the chance to sample over 80 wines from 15 different wine cellars around the Western Cape. The wine shop itself is one of the premium wine shops in the country, boasting over 700 wines in its cellars throughout the year.
And the best part? All of these wine tastings are for FREE, mahala, gratis! Now that’s something to celebrate, don’t you think?
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE 2014-2015 WINE CELEBRATION AT THE WINE VILLAGE SHOP
WINE, VINO, WYN: This year’s event features 80 wines from 15 cellars, giving guests a comprehensive run-down of the fruits of the surrounding regions’ labours. Twelve to fifteen wines will be opened daily specifically for tasting and an array of wines will be on sale. If the wine list seems overwhelming, get down to checking out the other ice-cold beverages on sale, like craft beers, brandy, grappa, gin, port and many more.
FOOD & GIFTS: Browse around the Wine Village shop and the surrounding boutiques for artisan preserves, olive oils, homemade jams and more. Those looking for a bite to eat amongst all the wine can try the five eateries on the premises and get a taste of pure Hermanus-style cuisine.
PLENTY OF PARKING: For those bringing their families and friends along, there will be plenty of secure parking available at the venue, so attendees can enjoy a hassle-free family-friendly day and not be phased by the usual holiday crowds.
