30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
For the first time ever, the City of Cape Town is set to host a major blowout in the Grand Parade to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Mother City and to mark our metropolis’s first official day as World Design Capital 2014 (WDC2014).
Thus, on Tuesday, 31 December 2013, locals, visitors and expats alike can journey to the iconic town square at the foot of the City Hall for a gratis, mahala and for FREE party, concert and light show.
The outdoor jol offers a range of entertainment, including dance acts, performers a fireworks display as well as a line-up of top-notch acts, like Toya Delazy, DJ Fresh, Trenton and Free Radical and so many more! Not to mention, revellers can watch a spectacular 3D-mapping light show tribute to Madiba while oohing and aahing at a Cape Town City Hall that’s been transformed into a rainbow-coloured landmark - Table Mountain providing the iconic backdrop.
Once the celebrations are complete, the Nagtroepe Malay Choirs and its ranks of talented singers and troupes make their way up Keizersgracht Street, past the Cape Town City Hall and on toward the Bo-Kaap Museum for a truly Capetonian start to 2014.
