Craig Hinds, singer, songwriter and lead vocalist for the South African band Watershed, will be performing at Moyo in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in support of his debut solo album, “Ordinary Boy”, on Friday, 19 July 2013. The show is also part of the Moyo Kirstenbosch Winter Concert Series.
The first of the talented performer’s Watershed-less projects, the 11-track collection was released in May 2013 and features songs that were recorded in Hollywood with musicians who have been part of John Mayer’s rhythm section. The first single from the album, called ‘The Light’, is a rocking tribute to women complete with the type of chorus that makes you lift your hands in the air and sing along at the top of your lungs. Though he will be using Watershed’s rhythm section and guitarist Paul McIver for his live performances, Hinds’s new work is still a departure from the group that brought hits like ‘Indigo Girl’ and ‘Letters’ to Mzanzi’s radio stations. His voice is more developed and the lyrics and content much more personal.
Watershed first burst onto the local music scene in 2000 with the platinum-selling album “In The Meantime”, which featured the smash song ‘Indigo Girl’, a sweet acoustic number that got some radio play in Germany and South Africa. Now, four great albums later, the band’s members have embarked on separate side projects. Hinds, in particular, has also written songs for other musicians, and finally felt it was time to challenge himself with a solo career.
“Right now, I’m excited about Craig Hinds the singer, Craig Hinds the writer. This is something new for me,” says the artist, gearing up for what is sure to be an exciting time for his music career.
