30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
Do you see your name in lights? Can you belt out killer tunes like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Freddie Mercury? Well then, The X Factor South Africa is looking for you!
The uber successful singing competition is set to premier in the rainbow nation on SABC1 in September 2014, and in anticipation, the judges are on a quest to find top Mzansi talent through a seven-city audition tour (Durban, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Polokwane, Johannesburg, Nelspruit and Pietermaritzburg).
The Cape Town leg of the auditions will take place at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday, 14 and Sunday, 15 June 2014.
Now, it’s your chance to impress the world (rumour has it that songstress Lira will be among the local judges) with that certain je ne sais quoi. Not to mention, the winner walks away with a whopping R300, 000 cash prize as well as a recording contract with Sony Music!
While this will be the first year the contest is hosted on local soil, it goes without saying that South Africans are well acquainted with the show. In fact, in 2012 local singer LeAnne Dlamini wowed the judges and made it to the boot camp stage of the UK version of the competition. Most recently, in 2013, 21-year-old Jeanette Akua also went through the UK’s boot camp segment but was cut just before the live shows. Luckily, judge Gary Barlow brought the Xhosa-speaking beautician back to form part of the girl group Miss Dynamix with two other contestants; the trio was eliminated in the third week of the live shows.
HOW TO ENTER THE 2014 THE X FACTOR SOUTH AFRICA AUDITIONS
To enter the 2014 X Factor South Africa, you must either be a soloist or part of a group (two or more singers), and you must be 16 years of age or older; bands will not be eligible to participate.
Eager participants can either audition online, pre-register for the live auditions or register on the day at the audition venue (do note that pre-registering will fast-track the process). Registrations at the various venues will open at 9am and close at 1pm.
To pre-register for the live auditions, visit XFactor.SABC1.co.za and fill in the online form.
