The hills, or in this case, mountains, will be coming alive with the sweet songs of one of the most beloved musicals in history, The Sound of Music, from Wednesday, 19 February to Sunday, 30 March 2014 at the Artscape theatre.
Presented by famed local producer Pieter Toerien, British musical theatre impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber and former actor David Ian, the famed story of the von Trapp family will be revived by an all-star South African cast.
The classic tale follows the young Maria, who becomes a governess to seven children and ends up marrying their father, Baron von Trapp. Soon after the wedding, Nazi Germany takes hold of Austria, and instead of heeding the call to join the navy, the Baron, along with Maria and the kids, flee across the Alps.
Along with a captivating story, The Sound of Music features a host of instantly memorable and sing-along worthy tunes, like ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and ‘So Long, Farwell’. Audiences are in for a spectacular time and certainly won’t be blamed for wanting to go see this legendary show again and again.
