30 years of democracy, 10 ways to celebrate
Following a successful artisan brew and food festival in 2013, The Constantia Craft Beer Project fair is back for a second year from Saturday, 1 to Sunday, 2 March 2014, and once again, the hops and barley jamboree will be taking over the False Bay Rugby Club for the weekend.
The two-day fiesta, which is organised by local brew-focused initiative The Craft Beer Project, celebrates hand-crafted beers and the passionate micro-level brewers who create them. Aside from honouring ale though, the fair is also a chance to indulge in some of the Western Cape’s world-renowned wines and an assortment of delicious nibbles. Festival-goers can look forward to sampling a range of beers from local, national and international micro-breweries, including Mitchell’s, Rogue Ales and Devil’s Peak. Plus, there’ll also be lots of tasty eats available from some of the eateries operating under Cape Town Food Trucks (think Lotus, Limoncello and The Grubbery), and every bite will be specifically designed to match well with the various ales, IPAs and lagers on offer.
Even if you’re not keen on indulging in too much alcohol, there will be plenty to keep you entertained at this year’s fair, so bring the kids along and make a whole day of it on the sprawling greens of the scenic venue. As a new addition, SA HotRods will be showcasing a few of their classic cars and bikes to give grease-heads something to drool over, and music fans can jol to the sounds of The Rivertones and electronic duo The Kiffness featuring vocals by Mathew Gold.
In short, the second edition of this craft beer fair looks like it’s going to promise a hopstastic time for one and all.
TICKETS AND CURRENCY FOR THE 2014 CONSTANTIA CRAFT BEER PROJECT
Tickets to the beer fest cost R90p/p online via Quicket.co.za or R120p/p at the door on the day, and this price includes a complimentary tasting glass. Kids under 12 years of age get in for free.
The fair uses a monetary system called Brew Bucks, which guests can exchange for craft beer, wine and food. This currency can be bought through Quicket.co.za at a cost of R100 for 20 bucks; otherwise, keep an eye out for the Brew Bucks Betties who will be selling them on site.
The festival runs from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
