Showcasing the Dignity of People “Living Outside”
Understanding the other side of Cape Town
From Saturday, 4 to Friday, 31 March 2017 Frank Schonau is taking his latest photographic exhibition to The Art Curator at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West. The exhibition is titled Showcasing the Dignity of People “Living Outside” and it is a contemporary look at the other side of Cape Town.
Cape Town, like many developed cities in Africa, is place where social injustice and poverty is very evident. As a tourist coming to the Mother City, it is easy to overlook the hidden part of Cape Town and simply see the Camps Bay/Waterfront lifestyle. Our beloved city is a mixing pot of all cultures, religions, colours and creeds.Frank Schonau went out into Cape Town’s poorer areas and met real people dealing with real struggles; they all live on or below the breadline, and some of them are currently living rough on the streets. He went beyond simply taking their picture; he got to know the people and conducted in-depth interviews about their hopes, dreams and ambitions.
This exhibit with fuse the photographs and the interviews together into one complete view of living as part of the other side in Cape Town. Don’t miss this hugely relevant experience that is being hosted at the charming Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West.
