Keen on treasures and collectables from bygone times? Then the annual SARDA Antique Fair is the place to be from Friday, 18 to Sunday, 20 August 2017. The 2017 edition of this popular fair will once again will be held in The Great Cellar at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia. Organised by the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA) as a fundraising event, the fair promises a fun-filled weekend for all with plenty of artefact-filled stalls.
The opening of the fair on Friday evening is also the gala event, where attendees are invited to enjoy snacks and drinks as they amble around the market – this is really an opportunity to get an insider’s preview into all the unique trinkets and treasures on sale. Over the three days of the event, a variety of stallholders will be showcasing and selling various sought-after collectables, including silverware, jewellery, and local and European furniture. The market will be filled with gorgeous and valuable finds, often of exceptionally high quality, going for fantastically reasonable prices.

The social, relaxed fair will also see food stalls selling yummy treats – think tea, coffee, cake and soup – on the Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the ticket sales as well as a large portion of the funds raised from stall rental and food sales will be donated to the SARDA.
SARDA, which is also based in Constantia, is a local non-profit organisation that offers free horse riding lessons to people living with various disabilities. The organisation does not receive government subsidies and therefore relies on donors and fundraising events to remain in operation. SARDA currently has a large number of regular riders and a dedicated staff who operate solely on a volunteer basis.

ENTRY TO THE 2017 SARDA ANNUAL ANTIQUE FAIR AT THE ALPHEN BOUTIQUE HOTEL
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day. Entry costs R60p/p on the Friday evening (which includes a glass of wine and finger food) and R30p/p on the Saturday and Sunday. The fair will start on Friday, 18 August at 6pm and be open until 9pm that night. On Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 August, the fair will be open from 10am until 5pm.
If you need more information, you are more than welcome to contact the organisers at SARDA by emailing capetown@sarda.co.za or phoning +27 (0)21 794 4393.
The saying goes that ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ (or woman’s). If you love secondhand and antique fairs for the rare finds you can discover, another treasure trove you can check out is the Milnerton Flea Market in Cape Town.
Cape Town has all sorts of other bazaars happening in and around it, too: if you’re not tired of shopping, why not peruse some of our top 10 markets in the Mother City?
