Rectron MTB Challenge & Family Day

Traverse the rocky trails on two wheels in support of a worthy charity

What better way to spend a sunny spring day than cycling through the stunning Franschhoek region in aid of terminal illness. You can soak up the scenery and inhale the crisp air from the seat of your mountain bike, while knowing that your effort is helping a worthy cause. The Rectron MTB Challenge & Family Day takes place on Saturday, 15 October 2016 at Boschendal wine estate and proceeds from the event will support St Luke’s Hospice and the families and patients who suffer from terminal illnesses.

There are three routes to choose from, so no matter what your fitness level, you will be able to hit the trails and navigate the Cape terrain. The longest route is 40-km, suitable for advanced riders who are comfortable with technical tracks and a 1100m ascent. The intermediate route is a 21-km trail with a 500m ascent, which is perfect for casual, yet fit riders. If you’re looking for something shorter still, the 10-km route is perfect for beginners of all ages. With a mere 130m ascent, even children will be able to join in on the fun, but kids under 10 years old need to be accompanied by an adult.

Aside from the cycling, this family-friendly event will have a variety of other cool activities to keep the spectators entertained. Catch a glimpse of the latest tech developments and gadgets at the technology showcase, or tuck into some delicious fares at one of the food stalls, at a picnic on the lawns, or at Rhone Homestead Restaurant’s hearty buffet lunch. Wine tasting and cellar tours are also available at The Cellar Door, so make the most of the day after the cycling challenge and indulge in some tasty post-race meals.

You could even stand a chance to win some spectacular prizes in the lucky draw, such as a 65” Smart LED TV, TomTom Spark fitness watches, RCT 10” 3G tablets, Boschendal wine hampers, accommodation vouchers and loads more. Gather the family and head out for a fun-filled day of fitness and feasting, all in aid of charity.

Tickets to the event are available online via Quicket.co.za , and prices are outlined below. Entries close on Wednesday, 5 October 2016.

Pre-registration will take place on Monday, 10 and Tuesday, 11 October 2016 at the Rectron Building in Milnerton, from 10am to 4pm. On-the-day registration will take place at the main tent from 6am to 8am.
