After more than a decade of inciting laughter in even Cape Town’s most sour citizens, Nando’s and Graça are, once more, adding a pinch of  humour to the mix with the 16th Nando’s Comedy Festival at the Artscape Theatre from Monday, 3 to Sunday, 9 September 2012

The Nando`s Cape Town Comedy Festival - hosted this year by local funny man David Kau - is the biggest comedy festival on the African continent, and in 2012, the sidesplitting stage performances feature seven of the best national and international acts.

Aside from carefully honed stand-up by weathered professionals, the winner of the Graça Comedy Showdown – a competition which pits local comedians against each other a month before the show –will also get their chance to leave audiences in stitches. The four week contest prior to the official comedy festival sees contestants sign up for open mic sessions and battle it out with nothing more than a mic and quick wit.

The Nando’s Comedy Festival line-up:

Orlando Jones – this American actor, most known for being part of the original cast of MADtv, started out as writer for “Martin” - starring Martin Lawrence - and “A Different World”, the “Cosby Show” spinoff.

Michael Winslow – Billed as the “Man of 10 000 Sound Effects” and known for his role as Sgt. Larvelle "Motor Mouth" Jones from the “Police Academy” movie and TV series, Winslow is famous for his ability to make realistic sound effects using only his voice.

Louis Katz – Appearing on “Last Call with Carson Daly”, Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and Jamie Foxx’s “America’s Funniest Comics”, funny man Louis Katz has been cracking jokes since the tender age of nine, when he submitted a number of jokes to the “The Tonight Show” – two of which were read.

Brian Haner – Probably best known as the Guitar Guy from The Jeff Dunham Show, Brian Haner is a triple threat. Not only a mean guitar player, he can sing and he is a skilled comedian. His songs are a laugh-a-minute musical mix.

Milton “LilRel” Howery – Forging a name for himself over the last few years, LilRel has appeared in numerous shows - “Last Comic Standing”, Comedy Central’s “Russell Simmons Presents” and Martin Lawrence’s “1st Amendment”.

Loni Love –Comedian and actress Loni Love is not only stage savvy, but is also a busy TV celebrity, hosting shows and appearing in popular TV series as well as films. Her Comedy Central one-hour special – “America’s Sister” - was recorded and premiered in 2010.

David Kau – As host for the show, he needs no introduction, but for those of you who don’t know, David Kau stormed onto the scene in 1998 at the first Nando’s Comedy Festival and hasn’t looked back since.

Tickets for the 2012 Nando’s Comedy Festival in Cape Town

Tickets are on sale and are available at Computicket.com, and prices range between R180p/p and R220p/p. Shows start at 7:30pm Monday to Friday, and there are two shows on Saturday: at 6pm and 9pm, and there is one show on Sunday: at 6pm.
