Kurt Schoonraad’s ‘Jou Ma Se’ Comedy Club at the Players Café

One of South Africa’s favourite celebrity comedians Kurt Schoonraad has pioneered Jou Ma se Comedy Club (JMSCC) to provide a regular reputable stand-up gig for Cape Town’s laugh-craving populace and re-establish a support system for the industry.

If you don't have any plans for things to do in Cape Town on a Thursday night, The comedy club at Players Cafe at the River Club in Obveratory, doubles as a platform for up-and-coming comedy stars as it provides an opportunity for fresh talent to brush shoulders with the more established international and local names in the industry, as well as generating invaluable exposure for everyone who stands up to the challenge.

Every week features a headline and support act, and a special guest host/MC. The Open Mic sessions are great ice-breakers and are highly sought after placement to those who wish to gain entrance into this exclusive industry.

17 November:

Host: Dave Levinsohn - SA's most original comic [JHB]
Support: Anne Hirsch - So You Think You Funny season 2 winner
Open Mic: Tashriq Ahmed - advocate of comedy
Open Mic: Oliver Booth - energetic performer with a zany take on reality
Headline: Stuart Taylor - comedian, magician & TV personality

24 November:

Host: Martin Evans - sharp, witty & very entertaining
Support: Werner Weber - part French, part German, but 100% South African
Open Mic: Aggrey Lonke - legendary impersonator & star of zanews
Headline: Nik Rabinowitz - SA's funniest Jewish speaking Xhosa comedian

The River Club is situated on the banks of the Liesbeek River in Observatory. The venue has been a long time favourite amongst golfers and business people, and offers great food, a bar and a comfortable experience for all comedy lovers.
