The South African premiere of Hitched has been described as ‘funny, meaningful and well crafted’ and ‘a verbal comedy in the style of Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward’.
This amusing play starts with celebrity and serial-bride Joan Lawson, telling the audience of the idyllic wedding between Nikolai Blake and Iris Cardiff.
Nikolai - a budding Television naturalist - and Iris - celebrity wedding dress designer - had the most perfect of weddings….or so they thought. Twelve months later Nick's rapidly rising star and accompanying jet-set lifestyle has poor Iris feeling distinctly sidelined.
When Iris gets a letter from the Bishop informing her that their marriage ceremony had actually been performed by a madman posing as the vicar, her life is turned upside down. With a career built on her own 'perfect celebrity wedding' and with Nick's gorgeous producer shamelessly pursuing him, Iris tries to hide the truth of their not being married from the world, Nick included.
But when Nick’s unscrupulous paparazzi brother Lance finds out and threatens to expose the whole affair, Iris needs to think on her feet, and is forced to confront a particularly uncomfortable question: ‘Knowing what you know now, Would you marry the same person twice'?
The cast features popular stage, TV and film actress Michele Maxwell, as well as Alicia McCormick, Lloyd Kandlin, Roxanne Prentice and Rory Berry.
Directed by Paul Tosio, Lighting Design is by Matthew Lewis and Set Design by Lloyd Kandlin.
Drinks and snacks are served at 19:00, the performance starts at 20:30
