Hummingbirds. House music. The connection seems vague – even cryptic. What does one of the world’s smallest birds have in common with deep, rolling bass lines and complex layered build-ups? The short answer: pollination.
Or at least that’s exactly what the brand new Nectar project, an experimental party series launched by some of the foremost engineers of the Mother City’s electronic music scene, is looking to accomplish.
With the first jol migrating into The Train Lodge just before sunset on Saturday, 3 January 2015, the organisers hope to pollinate party lovers with a fresh love for the lighter, more uplifting side of house and techno.
Think more melodic, more emotive expressions: the kind of ‘hypnotic but rich, organic but smooth’ sound structures that work with the spirit of blissful sunrise sets and euphoric sundowner sessions.
Leading the charge will be international headliner and Berlin-based producer Till von Sein, a man who’s been in the biz for over a decade. Though his tunes play on the warm, soulful side of house, don’t expect him to vacate the DJ box without smashing some grooves and funk in the mix and getting the dance floor pumping with classic 909 and 808 drum machines.
Local hotshots Floyd Lavine, Lady M, Diggin4Dodge and more will otherwise dominate the airwaves, and thanks to a Funktion One sound system, party-goers can buckle up, sit back and enjoy the top-class sonic journey.
Drinks and food will be on sale on site, and as there’s a pool, don’t forget your costume!
