Chick flicks, romcoms and smoochy, mushy dramas are all the rage during the month of February. That’s why the lovely people behind the Hope@Paul Cluver Summer Festival are offering lovebirds and singletons alike an alternative Valentine’s Day night out in Elgin. On Saturday, 14 February 2015, cinephiles can look forward to the stellar screening of the action-drama Top Gun (1986) at this Grabouw-based amphitheatre.
Those who remember Tom Cruise during his heyday (before that couch-jumping incident on the Oprah Show) will be delighted to see him on the big screen at this magical outdoor wooded venue. Watch the high-flying antics of characters Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell and Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw in, what one reviewer said was, “the most memorable and electrifying aerial footage”.
Apart from the riveting, yet romantic (there is a love interest for those not in the know) film that awaits, there is plenty of opportunity to really up the romance and make this a truly memorable experience. Take along a picnic basket, some cushions, blankets and something warm to put on for the cooler nights and drink in the beauty of this outdoor venue. Food, drinks and wine will be available for purchase from the various vendors. Do note, alcohol brought from home and fold-up chairs will not be allowed into the amphitheatre.
TICKETS FOR THE VALENTINE’S DAY MOVIES UNDER THE STARS AT PAUL CLUVER AMPHITHEATRE
Tickets are limited to only 600 and are available via Computicket.com and Computicket outlets and cost R100p/p.
All profits from the ticket sales go to the Thembalitsha Foundation in the Elgin and Grabouw areas. Be aware: No ticket pick-ups on the day at the gate; concert-goers must collect their tickets at Computicket outlets before the event.
Seats are not reserved, so it’s best to get there early to secure a prime spot. Fold-up chairs, tables and prams are not permitted in the arena.
Wine glasses will also be on sale at the venue at R25 each.
Gates open at 6pm and the show starts at 7:30pm come rain or shine (so, come prepared), and refunds will not be issued. The event will end around 9:30pm and the amphitheatre closes at 10pm.
