For one night only one of Cape Town’s most charming performance venues, the Fugard Theatre, plays host to two sets of scintillating acts.
The Natasha Meister Band - featuring Paul Tizzard on drums, Roger Bashew on bass, guest Dan Shout on saxophone and, of course, the young Blues sensation herself, Natasha Meister as lead – will break in the night with a showcase of songs from Meister’s debut album “Half Way”.
Canadian born, the gifted vocalist is a South African citizen who came to South Africa only a few years ago, but since she stepped foot on Mzanzi soil, she quickly succeeded in not only attracting the support of the gifted musos that now surround her, but also in wrangling together an impressive fan base.
After her series of bluesy Motown tunes, the man with many musical masks, Gavin Minter, will launch originals from his sixth album, “My Return to Paradise”.
Though his previous album was nominated for a SAMA Award in the “Best Jazz Album” category, don’t make the mistake of pigeon-holing this musician. He claims his inspiration for “My Return to Paradise” came from the folk and acoustic rock that his brother and sisters listened to throughout the 60s and 70s. Think Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, among others, mixed with the personal nostalgia of Minter’s past and the voice that’s come to define his present.
Minter will be joined on stage by Kevin Gibson, Wesley Rustin, Gorm Helfjord and Mark Fransman.
Limited seating is available so early bookings are advisable for this once off event. Tickets are available from the Fugard box office for R100.
