Hermanus Botanical Society’s Flower Festival

Enjoy the fresh blooms and floral delights of the Overberg at this family-friendly coastal wildflower show

Since the Western Cape is such an exceptional region for spectacular spring flower viewing, towns and cities all over are eager to show off their bright blooms during the colourful season, and Hermanus is no exception. The whale-watching town’s botanical society will host its annual wildflower festival at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve from Thursday, 22 to Sunday, 25 September 2016, and this year’s theme, ‘Fynbos and Fire’, will display the small wonders of nature that reside within the region.

The Hermanus Botanical Society’s Flower Festival also gives those keen to green their thumbs an opportunity to get inspiration for their own yards with a showcase of a dozen mini show gardens illustrating the things that can be done in even the smallest of spaces. There will also be a number of garden accessory stalls on hand, so potential gardeners can leave with everything they need to cultivate their own greenery.

Along with all the amazing flora, the flower festival will also have a marquee with arts and crafts stalls and mouth-watering home-cooked fare. Visitors can enjoy light meals, teas, coffees and cake under the trees in the Fernkloof Reserve’s serene gardens. Not to mention, there will be raffle prizes to be won and plenty of fun activities to keep the little ones happy, making this as perfect a spring day outing for the entire family as it is for flower enthusiasts.

If you can’t make this floral extravaganza, then check out our spiffing guide to flower viewing in the Cape Region or what else you can do on a trip to Hermanus.
